I love making Kumihimo necklaces. a typical necklace has about 3,000 beads. The number of colors, patterns, and designs seems limitless. Recently, I have been taking classes in using a Marudai. The advantage is that you can keep the thread very tight. But most importantly you can make braids that are round, square, rectangular, hollow, spiral, flat, triangular and even pentagonal and half-round in cross section. You can also make a wide variety of designs. My Marudai is a large one. It is 28 inches tall (71 centimeters). I continue to take classes in all facets of jewelry making. With the Tucson Gem Show(s) coming up, I have enrolled in several classes. As usual, remember to look at LuckySammyJewelry.com (Lucky and Sammy are cats).
